Man dies in fiery crash on Route 8 in Thomaston

A man was killed in a fiery crash on Route 8 in Thomaston on Tuesday when the pickup truck he was driving left the highway and struck a railing in the median.

The crash was reported just before 10:30 p.m. on Route 8 South about a mile prior to Exit 38 where a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab truck hit a wire rope railing and burst into flames, according to Connecticut State Police.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, state police said. His body was taken by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy and identification.

According to state police, the pickup truck was registered to a Florida resident.

The crash remains under investigation by the Collision Analysis Reconstruction Squad (C.A.R.S.).
