Man killed after striking construction vehicle on I-95 in Groton

A Massachusetts man was killed when the vehicle he was driving veer off Interstate 95 in Groton on Thursday and struck a construction vehicle.

Paul Robert Bigos, 37, of Dighton, Massachusetts was driving a 2012 Subaru Impreza on I-95 North just before 9:50 p.m. when he veered off the left side of the highway between Exits 88 and 89 and hit a 2020 Sennebogen 728e, according to Connecticut State Police.

The construction vehicle, which is often used in tree removal, was unoccupied and parked in the grass median. The construction area was not active at the time, according to state police.

Following the collision, the Subaru was blocking the northbound lanes with Bigos trapped inside, state police said. He was taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London where he was pronounced dead, according to state police.

The crash remains under investigation.
