The family of Aprentice Ethridge has started a GoFundMe to help cover burial expenses after his death last week in Mobile.
The family has set a goal of gathering $2,900 and has currently raised over $1,000.
“Your generosity will be forever appreciated as we come together to celebrate the life of a wonderful man who brought so much joy into our lives,” the family said. “Let’s ensure Aprentince receives the farewell he deserves. Thank you for your kindness, love, and support during this challenging time.”
Ethridge was killed last week after allegedly being struck with a hammer by Jaylen Tyus, 20.
Tyus is currently facing murder and aggravated child abuse charges and is held without bond at the Mobile Metro County Jail.
The child abuse charge stems from an incident in March, according to court records.
Police said Ethridge and Tyus, “were involved in a discussion about [Tyus’] girlfriend” when the suspect hit Ethridge with a hammer.
