A Stamford man has been sentenced to more than a decade in prison for sexually assaulting a heavily sedated woman in a hospital in Norwalk in 2020.
Rodney Daniels, 48, faced sentencing on Tuesday in Stamford Superior Court where he was handed down a 12-year prison term followed by eight years of special parole, according to the Connecticut Division of Criminal Justice.
The sentencing came after he pleaded guilty during a previous hearing to two counts of second-degree sexual assault. These charges were upgraded from Class C felonies to B felonies after prosecutors charged Daniels as a persistent serious felony offender, according to judicial officials.
Both counts of sexual assault stem from an incident reported on Aug. 29, 2020, when Daniels was taken in an ambulance to Norwalk Hospital after saying he had used hallucinogenic drugs, authorities said. In the emergency room of the hospital in the early morning hours, officials said Daniels “surreptitiously entered” an exam room of a female patient and sexually assaulted her while she was under heavy sedation.
A nurse who checked on the patient found Daniels lying next to the victim with his face in her chest and his hand touching her inappropriately, criminal justice officials said. Authorities also said they were able to extract Daniels’ DNA from the victim.
