Man suffers burns outside CT home, airlifted to hospital

A man was airlifted to the hospital after suffering burns during a fire outside a home in Simsbury on Wednesday.

Emergency crews at 4:40 p.m. responded to 41 Quorn Hunt Road on the report of a structure fire involving injuries, according to the Simsbury Police Department.

Neighbors and first responders tended to a man who was suffering burns before he was airlifted in LifeStar to Hartford Hospital, police said. Police noted that the man did not reside in the home but did not elaborate on whether he had any connection with the residence. His condition remains unclear.

Firefighters with the Simsbury Volunteer Fire Department found a vehicle fire that extended to a minor grass fire and to an attached garage of the home. Fire officials said firefighters from Avon and Canton responded for mutual aid with water tankers.

The grass fire was put out quickly and the rest of the blaze was contained to the area of the garage and the vehicle parked in the driveway, according to fire officials.

The incident remains under investigation by police as well as the Simsbury Fire Marshal’s Office and the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
