Man who fled scene of CT crash involving two kids caught by K-9

A man wanted for questioning in an armed robbery in Rhode Island was arrested after fleeing a crash involving two children in Bolton.

Troopers from Troop K were dispatched to the area of Brandy Street and Meadow Road in Bolton around 5 p.m. on Friday for a one-car motor vehicle crash involving a pole, according to the Connecticut State Police.

Troopers located three passengers, including two children, and learned that the driver, identified as 33-year-old Kyle Fortier of Windham, fled on foot, state police said.

At the same time, police from Pawtucket, Rhode Island asked state police for assistance with an open investigation, notifying Troop K dispatch that Fortier and the vehicle were wanted for questioning and processing following an armed robbery, according to state police.

State police noted that Fortier has been known to carry weapons during prior incidents.

K-9 officers from Troop K, Troop H and Troop D assisted in the search.

Fortier was later taken into custody at gunpoint after he was found exiting the wood line on Meadow Road, according to state police.

There were no injuries to Fortier or responding troopers, state police said.

Fortier was charged with two counts of risk of injury, reckless endangerment, interfering with an officer, evading responsibility and failure to maintain a proper lane. State police said Fortier also had an active PRAWN warrant for violation of probation.

Fortier was being held on bonds totaling $525,000, according to state police.
