The MCU had its fair share of missed opportunities over the years, and not giving Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff her own flick in the first three phases was arguably one of the biggest. By the time she was finally given her own movie, it was a little too late and Black Widow itself was seen as a letdown.
For a long time, Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch was also in the same boat, as Marvel had no clue what to do with her after Age of Ultron. Fortunately, things turned around for her, and the later releases cemented Wanda as one of the most beloved and layered characters in the MCU. Moreover, fans feel it’s time for the MCU to resort to her once again after some recent mishaps.
It’s Time for the MCU to Resort to the Darkhold
Since the conclusion of the Infinity Saga, the MCU has struggled to build compelling female superheroes along the likes of Scarlet Witch and Natasha. While The Marvels had some interesting ideas underneath, they weren’t utilized to their full potential, and many found the final output a bit underwhelming.
With Deadpool 3 reigniting the spark in the brand after string of subpar releases, fans feel it’s high time for the MCU to resort to the character that has worked greatly so far.
While Doctor Strange: Into the Multiverse sees Wanda perishing in the end, the actress hasn’t condemned the idea of a potential return.
Elizabeth Olsen Will Return if There’s a Story To Be Told
From becoming an Avenger to losing herself to grief in the WandaVision, which leads to her villain turn in Doctor Strange 2, to Marvel’s credit, they haven’t dropped the ball with Scarlet Witch.
Elizabeth Olsen too is satisfied with Marvel’s treatment of her character so far and has entertained the idea of a possible return if the story is good.
It’s a character that I love going back to when there’s a way to use her well, and I think I have been lucky that when I started I was used well. I think people didn’t know what to do with me for a second there… If there’s a good way to use her, I’m always happy to come back
According to a report from The Cosmic Circus, it appears the MCU might be well ahead of fans on this one, as a Scarlett Witch project might be part of the MCU’s scheme of things. However, if the report does have some weight to it, it might be a while before we see Olsen return, as the project is apparently very early in the conceptual stage.
