Boruto: Naruto Next Generations continues the legacy Naruto has left behind in the form of his son, Boruto and his adventures. The story of Boruto is one that is controversial for various reasons.
Some fans believe that Boruto introduced so many new concepts and plot points that it renders the stuff established in Naruto irrelevant. One of them is an ability unleashed by Kashin Koji. Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter 13 revealed Kashin Koji to be a user of the incredible Prescience ability, which fans know to be a Shinjutsu.
A brief note on Kashin Koji’s Shinjutsu
Fans know that Naruto has established various kinds of Jutsu like the well-known Shadow Clone Jutsu. That technique is one among many Ninjutsu or Ninja-based techniques. Similarly, there are other types of Jutsus, like Senjutsu and Taijutsu.
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex comes along and introduces another Jutsu that basically renders the previous Jutsus as weak or inferior. It is called the Shinjutsu and it’s on the realm of the Divine, sort of like God Ki in Dragon Ball Super. The only ones who can access these abilities are the Otsutsuki, who basically drain the life force of numerous worlds by devouring chakra fruits. When they reach godhood by destroying worlds, they have a plethora of potent Shinjutsu powers.
After Shibai Otsutsuki, the strongest Shinjutsu user, left his body, Amado bestowed a number of powers on the people of Kara from his corpse. As a result, Shibai Otsutsuki’s DNA was implanted into every single one of the Kara.
However, some of them did not, and Kashin Koji was one of them. Yet, when Koji fought against Isshiki, he was left for dead, that is precisely when his Shinjutsu called Prescience awakened. He is able to view not just the future that is happening right now, but also alternative futures that are possible in the future.
This basically means that Kashin Koji is able to envision various potential futures and devise strategies to prevent the worst-case scenario because of this. Most importantly, Koji can use this ability to train others, or even himself.
All of Boruto’s past techniques, whether they were utilized in one timeline or another, were implanted in his present self. Since these techniques were abilities that Boruto could utilize in the future, he could also use them in the present.
Because of this, fans now understand how Boruto Uzumaki became so powerful and how he made such rapid progress. However, this also poses a problem to fans at the same time, as they feel this totally undermines a certain fan favorite character.
The problem with Kashin Koji’s OP abilities
Boruto: Naruto Next Generations later revealed that Kashin Koji is indeed Jiraiya’s clone that Amado created using Jiraiya’s DNA. The scientist wanted to recreate Jiraiya from scratch in the prime of his abilities to aid his grand plan to stop Jigen from achieving his goals. And he made a version of Jiraiya even stronger than the original. That’s like Dr. Gero making a clone of Frieza in Dragon Ball Z, and making an even stronger version of the one Goku fought on Namek. That would definitely undermine the original Frieza.
Similarly, some fans feel that series creator Masashi Kishimoto brought back Jiraiya (albeit a version of him) just for nostalgia and made him way stronger to make him relevant in the current powerscaling. But that doesn’t mean they don’t want the old man back it needs to be done in a better way.
It goes without saying that Koji is among the strongest characters in the story. Within the Kara, he’s second only to Jigen, the leader of the group. Even though Jiraiya was considered quite strong in Naruto, he wasn’t capable of getting the better of Pain, someone who couldn’t compare to the likes of even Delta in combat. And Code and Boruto are stronger than Delta.
Jiraiya used Sage Mode during his battle with Pain in Amegakure, but his Sage Mode wasn’t perfect, giving him some frog-like characteristics and preventing him from using the full power that this form could provide. Meanwhile, Kashin Koji has complete mastery over the Sage Mode and can access it within a matter of seconds.
While fans do appreciate the name “Jiraiya” being brought back into the series, some of them do feel that Koji’s impact as a character will never match the charm the pervy Sage had in the original Naruto series.
