Megan Thee Stallion is no stranger to the spotlight, but her recent documentary, In Her Words, offers a fresh lens into her experiences, particularly an uncomfortable moment during her CBS Mornings interview with Gayle King.
During the interview, King posed a provocative question about the rapper’s past with Tory Lanez, specifically whether they had a s*xual relationship before the notorious 2020 shooting incident. Stallion’s reaction was one of surprise and frustration, as she felt the question diverted attention from the serious matter at hand—the shooting itself.
Megan Thee Stallion Admits to Misleading Gayle King About Tory Lanez
Megan Thee Stallion’s recent revelations in her Amazon Prime documentary, In Her Words, peel back the layers of her tumultuous relationship with Tory Lanez that ended in controversy and a prison sentence.
The rapper, 29, candidly admitted during the documentary that she misled journalist Gayle King regarding her relationship with Lanez, saying (via Page Six):
Her frustration was palpable as she reflected on that moment, insisting she was unprepared for King’s probing questions about her past with Lanez. “I thought we was gonna talk about this shooting,” she added, emphasizing her desire to focus on the more pressing issues at hand rather than her personal life.
In their April 2022 interview, King had pressed the rapper about her connection with Lanez, who had suggested they were more than friends. Stallion maintained at that time that “I didn’t have a s*xual relationship with Tory.”
However, her documentary paints a different picture, revealing that the two had been intimate on a few occasions, albeit during drunken nights.
This contradiction led to claims of unreliability in her testimony, with Lanez’s rep, Ceasar McDowell, asserting that Stallion’s admission made her an unreliable witness (via Page Six).
He questioned how anyone could trust her statements if she had lied in front of millions.
The Night Megan Thee Stallion Was Shot by Tory Lanez
We learned from Vulture that on July 12, 2020, after a lively pool party at Kylie Jenner’s house, a seemingly innocent car ride turned into a life-altering event. Megan Thee Stallion found herself in a vehicle with Tory Lanez, a friend, and his bodyguard, following a celebratory evening. According to reports (see The New York Times), a disagreement erupted regarding Lanez’s rap skills, escalating tensions and leading to Stallion exiting the car.
But what began as a friendly gathering spiraled into chaos when shots rang out. Stallion was struck in the foot, an incident that would prompt her to later identify Lanez as the shooter during an emotional Instagram Live.
In her initial interactions with law enforcement, Stallion claimed her injuries were caused by broken glass, a decision driven by fear of the police and the potential for violence. “I didn’t want to die,” she recalled (via Vulture), highlighting the very real anxieties faced by those in her situation.
Stallion’s revelation about the shooting opened the floodgates to intense scrutiny and speculation. Following the incident, it was reported that Lanez had been drinking and allegedly offered Stallion money to keep quiet about the events that transpired (per TMZ).
After a prolonged legal battle, Lanez was found guilty of shooting Stallion and sentenced to ten years in prison in August 2023. Despite the conviction, he has consistently claimed his innocence, stating (via Instagram):
Despite the conviction, the story remains one of complicated emotions and serious consequences, illustrating the profound impact of that night on both their lives.
