YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — Reports said a mother and son Sunday afternoon were booked into the Mahoning County Jail after a woman said the son threatened her and strangled her.
Alonzo Jackson, 30, was scheduled to be arraigned Monday in municipal court on third-degree felony charges of strangulation and being a felon in possession of a firearm and a fifth-degree felony charge of obstructing official business.
His mother, Rolanda Tucker, is charged with obstructing official business.
Reports said police were called about 2:05 p.m. to a South Avenue gas station, where a woman said she argued with Jackson at a nearby apartment on East Midlothian and that Jackson strangled her and pointed a gun at her.
The woman ran out of the apartment and to the gas station, where she called police.
Police went to the apartment where they found Jackson and Tucker, reports said. Reports said they asked Jackson to open the door and come into the hallway, but he would not step outside the apartment.
As officers moved in to try and grab Jackson, he called for his mother and Tucker appeared behind him, reports said. Jackson began mouthing words to her and inclining his head behind him like he was trying to tell her something, reports said.
Police saw the grip of a pistol in Jackson’s back pocket and it looked like his mother was moving toward the pistol, reports said. One officer managed to grab Tucker, but Jackson broke away from two officers at the door and tried to run away before he was shot with a stun weapon and taken into custody, reports said.
Police did find a gun on Jackson and took it for evidence, reports said.
Jackson is not allowed to have a gun because of a 2010 conviction in Mahoning County Juvenile Court for aggravated robbery.
