Green Gates Cafe, situated on Candleriggs in the Merchant City, has been recognised in the Hidden Gems category of the Travellers’ Choice Awards.

The restaurant specialises in “home-style” regional cuisine from the north and south of India.

The team is headed by executive Chef, Tarun Wadhwa, and food and beverage manager, Balram Bhatia, both of whom have trained extensively.

TripAdvisor said: “You have to get a bit off the beaten path to find these spots, but they certainly earn their winner status in both taste and local charm.

“The Travellers’ Choice Awards Best of the Best title celebrates the highest level of excellence in travel.

“It’s awarded to those who receive a high volume of above-and-beyond reviews and opinions from the TripAdvisor community over a 12-month period.

“Out of our eight million listings, fewer than 1% achieve this milestone.”

Diners hailed its “warm ambience” and “awesome flavours”, as well as the “outstanding” customer service.

Staff serve up a range of tasty dishes including pakora, chicken and fish curries, biryani, poppadums and naan bread.

One happy customer wrote: “My partner and I are on holiday from Australia and we had the best Indian food we have had in a long time. The owner and staff were very friendly, helpful and provided great service. The decor of this restaurant is lovely, classy but simple and interesting.”

A third weighed in: “Food was very good. Authentic Indian flavours. Biryani and chicken tikka masala were stars of the show. Mouthwatering and yummy.

“Service was very good with a big smile.”

Elsewhere in Glasgow, Murphy’s Pakora Bar in swanky Finnieston was branded “one of the best” eateries in the city.

The popular Indian eatery is famed for its selection of pakora, curries and small plate offerings.

It has become a hot spot for famous faces, including Elvis’s ex-wife Priscilla Presley, Hollywood A-lister James McAvoy, and even Rangers hero Barry Ferguson.
