THE mum of an ill girl who forged a friendship with Graeme Souness says her daughter has “no idea” he is a star.
The Rangers legend met Isla Grist, 16, after getting involved in skin disorder charity Debra Scotland.
Isla, of the Black Isle, near Inverness, suffers from epidermolysis bullosa — known as “butterfly skin” due to parts of the body becoming fragile and blistering.
Her mum Rachael, 48, said: “Isla has no idea about who he is. She doesn’t care and doesn’t bother with football.”
Last year, Souness, 71, helped to raise £1.5million for Debra by swimming the English Channel.
He planned to take part in another fundraiser next month, but pulled out due to an injury.
Souness revealed he became an atheist after witnessing the effects of the life-limiting skin condition on children.
The Scotland legend became a campaigner for people suffering with Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) after learning about the condition at a charity dinner five years ago.
And he told how meeting people with the “evil” disease had stopped him believing in God.
Last month, we revealed Isla is to get the first donation from a fund set up by stab victim Barnaby Webber’s family — and will buy an electric wheelchair.
