The Nintendo Switch has completely cemented its status as a legendary console, dominating not one but two console generations with its sales. With nearly 140 million units sold and in spite of carrying dated hardware, it has managed to capture the hearts of many by offering what matters the most, good video games.
Now, though, a new rumor surrounding the company suggests that the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2’s reveal could be right around the corner. With all the frustrations people have with the other two major players in the industry, perhaps this news couldn’t have come at a more opportune time for residents of Team Red.
Xbox and PlayStation’s Struggles Have Left the Perfect Opening for a Nintendo Switch 2
If Nintendo does manage to release a console within the current window of 2024, as the following rumors suggest, then Xbox and PlayStation will genuinely have a tough time recovering from its impact.
After all, the first Switch continues to sell well despite its age, so there’s little doubt that the same may be expected of its iterative next-gen counterpart.
I cannot verify this firsthand, but something huge just came my way…
Supposedly, quite recently, a trailer-like commercial was filmed to promote a certain next generation console.
If this is indeed the case, I think we are  one-six weeks away from a reveal.

The problem with the other two is quite easy to break down. On the Xbox side, the platform’s recent decision to raise Game Pass prices has been met with quite the backlash.
Developers and others continue to express frustration over the extra costs involved in optimizing games for the Series S, which has caused significant delays for key titles like Black Myth: Wukong and last year’s Baldur’s Gate 3.
Add to the mix are the controversy surrounding Microsoft’s decision to shutter beloved studios and the recent allegations of non-cooperativeness with smaller developers.
It is no wonder that people are questioning the future of the platform and whether the brand will remain sustainable as it enters 2025 in the coming months.
Meanwhile, PlayStation and Sony aren’t faring much better either. The PlayStation 5 Pro’s near non-incremental improvements in the game, along with its eye-watering $700 price tag, have stirred up a lot of negative sentiment. Making matters worse, the lack of a stand and disk tray has left most feeling nickel-and-dimed by the conglomerate.
One would expect the games’ side to be holding up better here, but that isn’t quite the case either. In the live-service department, Helldivers 2 suffered a major blow when mandatory PSN sign-ins were included, and it never recovered.
Along with it, Concord remains the single-biggest failure in the gaming industry for now, meeting its untimely demise after living for a mere twelve days.
Many people’s biggest issue with Sony at the moment is that its console’s next-gen library feels rather slow and lagging behind, especially compared to the PS4 days. This has left many to wonder if PlayStation is still worth the investment.
Unlike Sony and Microsoft, though, which often feel out of touch with their respective player bases, Nintendo still manages to listen to its community. Now, yes, the company can be utterly evil in certain situations, especially in matters concerning legal shenanigans.
However, people tend to overlook that because the company brings consistently high-quality first-party games that simply never age to its platform. Now, with both major competitors facing serious setbacks, the timing of a Nintendo Switch 2 reveal feels like a breath of fresh air.
Historically, Nintendo has always been a reliable company, except in the rarest of cases. Considering the possibility of a lower price point, the Switch 2 could be set to dominate the market once again, just as the original Switch did.
With All the Hype Surrounding Nintendo Switch 2, What Do Fans Expect From the New Console?
As anticipation for the console continues to build at an unprecedented pace, people can’t help but speculate on what aspects make the Nintendo Switch 2 a true successor to its eight-generation counterpart.
Given how dated the hardware was when the first Switch came out, base performance improvements are almost certainly taking the highest place on the wish list, even if the company has never prioritized it.
After that, it’s a lot more divided. Some want Hall Effect joysticks on the next console, while others want enough processing power to support up to 4K resolution.
Let’s also not forget the demand for a larger OLED panel, better battery life in handheld mode, and, most importantly, complete backward compatibility with the previous console’s library.
What’s just as exciting is the thought of the console’s launch lineup. It’s almost a guarantee that Nintendo has long been working on a new 3D Super Mario Game, possibly a sequel to Odyseey.
What’s equally guaranteed are enhanced versions of last-gen titles that pushed the console a little too far, like Tears of the Kingdom, Bayonetta 3, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and some of the other third-party ports.
