A newborn was among four people killed in a single-vehicle accident on Labor Day in Mobile County, authorities said Thursday.
Richard D. Dees Jr., 41, of Mount Vernon, was driving a 2016 Ford Explorer around 6 a.m. Sept. 2 when the SUV left the road, struck a tree and caught fire, said Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Senior Trooper Joshua Thompson.
Dees and three other victims — Mount Vernon resident Savanna M. Fuel, 28; Brittney N. Goolsby, 34, of Satsuma; and the newborn — were pronounced dead at the scene, said Thompson.
The bodies of the fatal victims were taken to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences where they were “later” identified, Thompson said.
A 30-year-old Washington County woman was injured in the wreck on Sam Jones Avenue near Denney Street in Mount Vernon, authorities said.
Further information was unavailable as troopers continued to investigate the wreck.
