No, Sony Has Not Scrapped Most of ‘Beyond the Spider-verse,’ Film’s Music Composer Debunks Inaccurate Report

The world awoke to two new reports on Sony’s Spider-Man films. While Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4 reportedly got its director in the form of Shang-Chi’s Destin Daniel Cretton, the animated film Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-verse got some bad news. A report mentioned that the film’s work had been scrapped and it might face a delay till 2027.

Sony’s Across the Spider-verse released last year to amazing reviews and box office collections. While it did not make its previously planned March 2024 release date, music composer Daniel Pemberton has now debunked the report that the film was delayed till 2027.

Ever since the cliffhanger ending of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-verse promised the showdown between an alternate Miles Morales, the OG Miles, and the Spider Society, fans have been relentlessly waiting. The sequel, Beyond the Spider-verse, was initially supposed to be released in March 2024 but was then delayed indefinitely (via Comic Book).

However, a recent report by prominent scooper Jeff Sneider claimed that Sony had done a creative overhaul of the work done to date on Beyond the Spider-verse, and the film could face a delay till 2027. Fans were up in arms when they heard the news, with many hoping it was not true.

Well, now it looks like their prayers were answered as music composer Daniel Pemberton reportedly posted on X(formerly Twitter), debunking Sneider’s report. Pemberton reposted a news item that spoke about a report and called it inaccurate.

Fans seemed to be relieved at the prospect as the film has already been marred by delays and complaints of overworking artists.

After the revolutionary and blockbuster animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse, creators Phil Lord and Christopher Miller took four years for the sequel Across the Spider-verse. However, they had announced a two-part sequel, with Beyond the Spider-verse set to be the trilogy’s final film.

Since the release of Across the Spider-verse, with many complaints of last-minute changes and overworking animators and artists, Lord and Miller told Comic Book that they would be giving the threequel the time it needed. They said,

I would say that just like we’re going to take the time necessary to make Beyond the Spider-Verse great. And we won’t back into a release date that doesn’t fit.

Actor Jake Johnson, who played Peter B. Parker, mentioned that the makers prioritized the quality of the film over release dates and mentioned that all the artists working on the film did not care about the rules. While this may not give confidence to fans about the film releasing anytime soon, they will at least be rewarded for their patience.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-verse is available to stream on Netflix.
