North Alabama man gets life in prison for stabbing elderly parents

A DeKalb County man pleaded guilty today to two counts of attempted murder for stabbing his elderly parents.

District Attorney Summer McWhorter Summerford said Ballard “B.B.” Eugene Pennington, Jr., was sentenced to life in prison by Circuit Judge Jeremy Taylor.

“We are thankful that justice was served in this case,” Summerford said. “Individuals deserve to be safe in their own homes – and from their own family members. We are so thankful that both victims survived this attack. We hope, with this resolution, they never have to face this type of violence again. Please keep this family in your thoughts and prayers.”

Pennington was arrested Jan. 7 when deputies were called to a home in the Rainsville area.

A deputy with the DeKalb County Sheriffs Office encountered Pennington walking down the road close to the residence with blood on his hands. According to Summerford, Pennington told the deputy, “I think I killed my mom and dad.”

Pennington’s parents had been stabbed multiple times each and had life-threatening injuries.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Stanna Guice.
