North Huntsville voters shake up city council in runoff election

North Huntsville voters ushered out an incumbent Tuesday in the city’s municipal runoff election for council and board of education seats in District 1.

Former school board member Michelle Watkins outpolled Councilor Devyn Keith by nearly 400 votes, capturing 2,278, or 54.3%, to Keith’s 1,910, or 45.6%, according to unofficial results. Keith was seeking his third term on the council. Watkins had represented the north Huntsville district on the city board of education for the past eight years.

In the district’s school board runoff election to fill the seat Watkins had held, Chaundra M. Jones collected 2,113 votes, or 52.5%, to engineer Pat King’s 1,935, or 47.8%.
