After a slew of underwhelming releases from the MCU, Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool & Wolverine turned out to be one of the biggest hits of the years. Not only did it reignite the spark in the MCU, but the film further realized Channing Tatum’s long-lost dream of playing Gambit onscreen.
Although it remains unclear if the MCU would be inclined to bring Tatum back for more Gambit in the MCU, according to Reynolds, the top brass at Marvel are apparently obsessed with the idea.
Ryan Reynolds’ Promising Remark on Gambit’s Future
With the MCU gradually heading towards its next Avengers crossover, it’s safe to say many former Marvel stars might end up appearing in the multiversal event. While actors, including Hugh Jackman and Andrew Garfield, remain favorites, there hasn’t been any report on Channing Tatum‘s involvement, which is surprising given the reception to his appearance as Gambit.
Tatum, who initially missed out on playing Gambit following Disney’s acquisition of Fox, has been vocal about returning to the role after Deadpool 3. However, according to Ryan Reynolds, the MCU is obsessed with the idea, even though he doesn’t exactly know what is happening behind closed doors at Marvel.
I honestly don’t know what goes on behind closed doors in the bookkeeping sessions at Marvel, but I do know that they’re obsessed with him in that role
He further drew comparisons with his 2014 Deadpool test footage, which got the ball rolling on his 2016 Deadpool feature.
It’s kind of like the same situation I went through. Once you show that it works well, that’s really what they need. Sometimes they just need to see it in action.
As for Gambit’s future, noting the fan response to Tatum’s appearance in Deadpool 3, we might end up seeing a repeat of 2016’s Deadpool.
Ryan Reynolds Is Ready to Assist Channing Tatum in a Potential Gambit Movie
If Channing Tatum’s Gambit feature eventually takes off, which seems likely after Reynolds’ statements, the Deadpool star has assured the Magic Mike star that he’d be happy to assist the actor in any way he could. Reflecting on Tatum’s interview, in which the actor spoke highly of Reynolds and credited the Red Notice star for reviving the IP, Reynolds took to his IG story to share:
When he makes a Gambit movie, I’ll return the favour. If he needs someone to carry sandbags, I’m in. If hje needs a Deadpool, I can do that. Someone to provide fresh orange slices to the crew, no problem. Name it.
While it remains to be seen what the future holds for Tatum’s Gambit, from the small sample in Deadpool 3, it won’t be too far-fetched to say that he’d absolutely rock a potential standalone feature.
