An investigation into an officer-involved shooting of a suspect was underway in West Haven on Thursday night.

The West Haven Police Department and the New Haven Police Department were investigating an incident that took place on the Boston Post Road between Front Avenue and Ella T. Grasso Boulevard, West Haven police said on Thursday.

Connecticut State Police said late Thursday that, “during the course of the investigation the suspect displayed a firearm. A Connecticut State Police Sergeant and a New Haven Police officer discharged their weapons, causing injury to the suspect.”

“The scene has been secured, and there is no active threat to the public at this time,” state police said.

State police also said that the Office of the Inspector General has been notified and has assumed the investigation and that the New Haven State’s Attorney responded to the scene and “is assisting” and that detectives from the Central District Major Crime Squad “responded to the scene to assist the Inspector General’s Office with scene processing.”

No injuries have been reported among law enforcement personnel but it remains an active and ongoing investigation, state police said.

According to WFSB, New Haven police said the shooting took place at Splash Car Wash on Boston Post Road in West Haven.

Police are asking the public to avoid the area and find alternate routes during the investigation.
