Oilers’ Evander Kane not expected to return until 2025 after undergoing surgery

Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane is not expected to be available until January or February after undergoing surgery, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported Sunday.

Kane underwent surgery to repair both abductors, two hernias and two abdominal tears on Friday.

The 33-year-old posted a picture to his Instagram story Friday giving a thumbs up from his hospital bed with the caption: “Successful surgery, long road ahead but very grateful for my amazing surgeons and nurses.”

Kane told reporters Wednesday he felt something wrong in late October and things got worse in the following months.

He recorded 44 points (24 goals and 20 assists) in 77 games during the regular season and added eight points (four goals and four assists) in 20 playoff games. However, Kane was sidelined during the Stanley Cup Final and missed five of the seven games in the series against the Florida Panthers.

Although Kane did not provide a precise timeline for his recovery when he addressed the media, Edmonton general manager Stan Bowman said he would be “out a while.”
