YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — A house on Youngstown Southside — considered to be one of the oldest in the city — was recently demolished after it was determined the house was not salvageable.
Tuesday the lot where the house once stood on Glenwood Avenue next to Conroy’s Party Shop was empty. It was built in the 1840’s or 1850’s
The Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation was renovating it last year but YNDC Executive Director Ian Beniston said they found extensive termite damage in one section.
Beniston said the decision to demolish was not an easy decision.
“Unfortunately we made the determination to demolish the house after identifying additional and significant structural damage once we began the interior demolition. The cost to repair the damage was more than we thought prudent to invest in one home,” Beniston said.
