One man, three kids taken to hospital after car hits pole in Hartford

One adult and three children were taken to the hospital late Thursday when a vehicle crashed into a utility pole in Hartford and rolled through a residential fence.

The crash was reported just before 8:50 p.m. in the area of 124 Newfield Ave. where three occupants of the vehicle involved were able to get out on their own and one was trapped inside, according to the Hartford Fire Department.

Fire officials said it took about five minutes to extricate the victim.

Three minors, including two girls and a boy, were taken to the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. One man was also taken to an area hospital, according to fire officials.

The injuries were described as ranging from “moderate to severe,” fire officials said.

According to officials, the vehicle struck a utility pole off of Newfield Avenue, which caused the pole to snap at the base, before rolling over and through a fence in a residential yard. The home was struck by flying debris, fire officials said.

Eversource crews responded to make repairs to the utility pole.

The city’s License and Inspections Division also responded to assess the damage to the house.

The crash is being investigated by the Hartford Police Department.
