One person is in critical condition after crashing into several cars in Bridgeport on Wednesday.

Emergency crews received a report of a collision involving four vehicles just before 10:10 a.m. near the intersection of East Main Street and York Street, according to Sgt. Darryl Wilson of the Bridgeport Police Department. The caller reported that the driver of a back Toyota Camry struck several cars and possibly had a seizure.

Members of the Bridgeport Fire Department, American Medical Response, police officers and the police department’s Serious Crash Investigation Team responded to the scene.

The driver of the Camry, a 43-year-old Bridgeport resident, had to be removed from the vehicle by firefighters and medics, according to Wilson. The driver was taken to the Bridgeport Hospital Emergency Center and was listed in critical condition.

According to Wilson, a preliminary investigation found that the 2009 Toyota Camry was heading north on East Main Street when it crossed into the southbound lane and struck a 2023 Chevy Malibu near the intersection of York Street. Two people in the Malibu, a 40-year-old driver and a 59-year-old passenger, were not injured.

The Camry then continued in the southbound shoulder and hit the front of an unoccupied parked 2007 Toyota Camry and pushed the vehicle onto the sidewalk, Wilson said.

The Camry then hit an unoccupied parked 2000 Cadillac Escalade and came to rest, according to Wilson.

The crash remains under investigation.
