One person injured in late night blaze in Windsor; pets rescued from home

One person suffered minor injuries in a blaze in a three-family house late Saturday night, according to the Windsor Volunteer Fire Department.

Emergency services responded to heavy smoke and an active fire inside of a first-floor bedroom at 138 East Barber St. at 11:32 p.m., according to the department.  All of the occupants were evacuated but there were two pets unaccounted for initially.

One resident went to an area hospital for medical treatment and evaluation after suffering minor injuries. No other injuries were reported. The Red Cross was summoned to provide assistance as one of the units was deemed uninhabitable, according to the fire department.

The Windsor Volunteer Fire Department also was able to rescue a cat and ferret from the building. The fire was under control at 1 a.m. Sunday morning, according to the fire department.

All Windsor fire companies were on scene as well as Windsor EMS and Windsor Police Department. Mutual Aid departments Blue Hills and Windsor Locks Fire Departments assisted while the Windsor Fire Department was at the fire, according to Windsor.

The fire remains under investigation by the Windsor Fire Marshal’s office, officials said.
