One Piece Fans are Ready to Forgive Dragon For Letting the Most Heartbreaking Tragedy Come to Life Because “Not every ending needs to be happy”

Spoiler Alert !!!

This article contains One Piece manga spoilers.

Eiichiro Oda’s ability to write emotionally charged flashbacks is exceptional. The backstories in One Piece always evoke a series of emotions in fans. However, in one of the recent flashbacks in the story, there’s a problematic aspect that can’t be ignored. During Egghead, Oda finally revealed Kuma’s backstory.

While his backstory makes his character way more likable, it reflects badly on Dragon, the leader of the Revolutionary Army. Fans have speculated and found ways to forgive Dragon, but can he really be redeemed after Kuma’s backstory?

Was Dragon Incompetent or Wise?

In Kuma’s flashback, we were introduced to Ginny. She was an invaluable part of the Revolutionary Army and Kuma’s lover. Right before Ginny was going to meet Kuma after years apart, she was kidnapped by the Celestial Dragons. However, what was more shocking was that the Revolutionary Army didn’t put up any kind of struggle or make an attempt to save Ginny.

Even if something like that happened, the manga hasn’t mentioned it yet. This obviously, made fans wonder why Dragon didn’t do anything. Seemingly, fans have come up with their own explanations to explain Dragon’s inaction during the matter.

Fans are ready to forgive and accept Dragon’s situation. Either it was incompetence that held him back or a solid reason. There are numerous possibilities that could explain Dragon, given how strong and influential the Celestial Dragons are. During that time, the Revolutionary Army was still growing. They were not as influential or as renowned as they are now, but knowing Dragon and his family, it is hard to believe that these things were enough to restrain him.

And about ‘not every ending needs to be happy’, well, why not? Dragon prevented Luffy’s death, and he is known for similar feats, so why didn’t he aim for something similar in this situation? It would be a shame if he didn’t even try. Many fans agree with this sentiment. This debate can only end if Oda addresses this again in the future.

Oda Could Ruin Dragon’s Character with This

Until now, Dragon has been a mysterious character. We hardly know how strong he is or what his true goal is. Eiichiro Oda might have plans to address this debacle again in the future when Dragon’s character is properly explored. However, if he doesn’t, then this can ruin Dragon’s character. If he just left Ginny to her fate without attempting to save her, then it sparks questions about his role and his relationship with the Revolutionary Army.

Not just Dragon, but also Ivankov, could be ruined if there isn’t a concrete reason. After all, Ginny considered Ivankov her brother. It needs to be mentioned that if Dragon’s son, Luffy, or his father, Garp, were in the same situation, they’d be ready to take on the whole world. Luffy has done it numerous times and Garp wreaked havoc for Koby. With that, the only thing that can save Dragon from being a disgrace is a solid reason behind his actions and only Oda can give us that.
