Only Marvel Can Do Justice To THIS DC Star After James Gunn’s Brutal Snub Following Just One Film Appearance

In the ever-evolving landscape of superhero cinema, casting decisions can often stir heated debate. Recently, a significant uproar emerged over James Gunn’s casting choice for DC’s new superhero lineup.

Even though the announcement of casting another actress and replacing Sasha Calle was exciting to some, critics appreciated her rendition of the character. The actress was largely overlooked in the DCEU, which has sparked discussion about the fairness of this transition and whether her performance received the recognition it deserved.

Milly Alcock being cast in Supergirl ignited waves of backlash, particularly regarding the treatment of Sasha Calle’s portrayal of the character. Calle appeared in The Flash as Supergirl and delivered a memorable performance, which set a new standard. In a statement given to The Wrap, James Gunn said the following:

This is a very different type of Supergirl. In our [film], we see the difference between Superman, who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from, you know, the time he’s an infant, versus Supergirl, who was raised on a rock chip-off of Krypton and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to Earth when she was a young girl and is much more hardcore. She’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing.

So, clearly, the series is aiming to portray a different version of Supergirl with a much more refined and hardcore backstory. Alcock’s depiction of a young Rhaenyra Targaryen in House of the Dragons is what caught Gunn’s eyes, and he shared the same in a Threads post.

However, James Gunn’s announcement stated that Calle’s portrayal had been relegated to a mere footnote in the DCEU narrative.

Fans expressed their frustration on social media, questioning Gunn’s decision. They wanted Calle’s fresh and compelling portrayal of Supergirl to have a more prominent future in the DC franchise.

Despite the conflicting opinions floating online, Sasha Calle was extremely supportive of Milly Alcock and only had kind words to offer. When she was interviewed by IndieWire and asked to give a message to the new Supergirl, Calle only offered her love and support.

“Have so much fun, you look so badass, I love that, yeah just f*ck*ng kill it!”

Her words reflect a positive attitude about Alcock’s role, even when the future of her involvement with DCEU remains uncertain. As the franchise moves forward, Milly Alcock will have big shoes to fill, and Calle’s performance will undoubtedly be remembered as a pivotal moment for the character of Supergirl.

As the DC Universe continues to evolve, casting decisions and shifting visions will often clash with what the audience desires. While some would be thrilled to see Alcock join the franchise, others are upset over Calle’s uncertain future. However, the actress will likely get more amazing prospects because simply being in DCEU will open many doors for her, possibly one in Marvel.

You can watch The Flash on Prime Video and House of the Dragon on Max.
