Orange County Top 10 rankings
(Records entering Sept. 9)
1. Orange Lutheran (12-0): The Lancers play host to Esperanza on Tuesday night in a revenge game. Esperanza went 3-0 against the Lancers last season.
2. Newport Harbor (5-2): The Sailors open the Beckman tournament against Northwood and Long Beach Poly on Saturday.
3. Santa Margarita (4-0): The Eagles play host to Mayfair on Thursday.
4. Aliso Niguel (10-1): Freshman QB Paige Russell helps lead the Wolverines into the Beckman tournament. Wolverines open against Los Alamitos and Esperanza on Saturday.
5. Esperanza (5-3): Ellie Frazier appears to have won the quarterback job for the Aztecs.
6. Corona del Mar (6-2): The Sea Kings beat Huntington Beach 18-12 last week to stay undefeated in the Sunset League.
7. JSerra (8-0): The Lions have outscored opponents 230-54 in their sizzling start. Freshman QB Ava Van Heerde has already passed for 1,945 yards and 32 TDs.
8. Huntington Beach (7-4): The Oilers are scheduled to play host to rising JSerra on Wednesday.
9. Marina (4-1): The Vikings are scheduled to play host to Los Alamitos in the Sunset League on Wednesday.
10. Cypress (5-1): The Centurions went 2-0 over the weekend at the Rams’ Jamboree, including a 13-0 win against highly-ranked Verdugo Hills. QB Alexis Schober has been one of the team’s standouts.
