PITTSBURGH, Pa. (WKBN) – Pittsburgh Pirates ace pitcher Paul Skenes finished in third place in the voting for the National League Cy Young Award.
Atlanta’s Chris Sale was the winner, securing 26 of the 30 votes. Philadelphia’s Zack Wheeler was the runner-up, garnering four first-place votes.
Last season, Sale went 18-3 with a 2.38 ERA. In 29 starts, he tossed 177.2 innings, piling up 225 strikeouts. He is the league’s first pitching triple crown since 2011.
Earlier this week, Skenes was named the National League Rookie of the Year.
During his rookie season, Skenes posted a record of 11-3 with a 1.96 ERA for Pittsburgh. In 133 innings, he piled up 170 strikeouts.
