Police in Waterbury have recovered three stolen cars over the past week, leading to nearly half a dozen arrests.
On Nov. 7, officers conducting patrol work just after 1:40 p.m. spotted a black Nissan Armada in the area of Dorchester Avenue and found that the vehicle had been reported stolen from somewhere within the city, according to Lt. Ryan Bessette of the Waterbury Police Department.
Bessette said the vehicle was occupied by two individuals who were identified as 32-year-old Jerry Acosta and 67-year-old Wanda Perez both of Waterbury.
Acosta was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle operating a motor vehicle without a license. Perez was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle.
On Monday shortly after 9 a.m., patrol officers spotted a 2004 Ford Econoline in the area of Grove Street and Willow Street and discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Southington. Police pulled the vehicle over and identified the driver as 40-year-old Jeffery Fennelly of Watertown, according to Bessette.
When officers searched the vehicle they allegedly finding drug paraphernalia and crack cocaine, Bessette said.
Bessette noted that Fennelly has a long criminal history that includes more than 20 previous larceny, burglary, robbery and assault arrests, including assault on an officer. He also had a warrant out for his arrest charging him with violation of probation.
Fennelly was charged with possession of a controlled substance, use of drug paraphernalia, larceny of motor vehicle (second offense) and illegal operation of motor vehicle under suspension. He was held on a $67,500 bond.
On Tuesday, patrol officers spotted another car stolen just before 4:40 p.m. in the area of Union Street. The red Hyundai Elantra was occupied by 25-year-old Juan Luis Angueira and 22-year-old Joely Padilla-Nunez both of Waterbury, Bessette said.
Angueira faces charges of misuse of marker plates, larceny of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle without a license, interfering with an officer and first-degree criminal trover. He was also found to have an outstanding violation of parole warrant and was remanded into custody, Bessette said.
Padilla was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle and first-degree criminal trover and posted a $10,000 bond.
