Police investigating multiple recent robberies at Yale University

Police are investigating a number of recent robberies at Yale University, including two involving graduate students who were approached by multiple individuals.

On Sept. 21, a graduate student was walking in the 1000 block of Chapel Street just after 11:15 p.m. when he was approached by two masked males, according to Anthony Campbell, chief of the Yale Police Department. The student was forcibly restrained as the males took his wallet, Campbell said.

The males then fled on foot toward High Street. No injuries were reported.

The next night, a graduate student walking on Elm Street was approached from behind by two males who told him to empty his pockets, according to Campbell. The student ran and was briefly chased by one of the individuals. The males then took off toward Church Street. The victim did not report any injuries.

Those two incidents were followed by an incident last Thursday shortly before 7 p.m., when an Uber Eats driver was approached by five to six males, including one who had a knife, Campbell said. The males demanded the food before shoving the driver.

The group fled toward Crown Street.

The victim did not report any injuries, according to Campbell.

Campbell said all three incidents are being investigated by the New Haven Police Department.
