Practice observations: What we saw at Auburn’s Week 3 Tuesday practice

Auburn football was back on the practice field Tuesday afternoon, in preparation for its Week 3 game against New Mexico.

Media was able to view around 15 minutes of Tuesday’s practice, with that time consisting of mostly drill work.

Here’s what we saw from the Tigers on the practice field:

Participation report

  • Wide receiver Cam Coleman was not practicing during open portion of practice after suffering a Grade 2 shoulder sprain against Cal, according to Hugh Freeze.
  • Starting right tackle Izavion Miller was not practicing during the open portion of practice after suffering a hip injury against Cal.
  • Both Coleman and Miller were working individually indoors.
  • Freeze mentioned after the Cal game that corner Keionte Scott is still dealing with a lingering hamstring issue but was dressed and a full participant during the open portion of practice.

Other Observations

  • From what the media was able to view, there wasn’t much change in the quarterback situation. Payton Thorne appeared to be going first in drills and throwing to the first team receivers.
  • Malcolm Simmons had the most impressive play of the open portion, making a one-handed catch on a pass from Thorne during drills.
  • With Miller not practicing, Dillon Wade moved into the starting right tackle spot during drills, with Tate Johnson sliding in at left guard.
