Rangers captain James Tavernier ‘makes huge decision over his future after being offered huge wage rise’

RANGERS captain James Tavernier’s future has been one of the hottest topics of the summer.

The Ibrox side were believed to have rebuffed an offer from Trabzonspor for the veteran full back earlier in the summer – while other Turkish sides are believed to have been working on a deal ahead of the transfer window in that country closing tomorrow.

But now it’s being reported that the 32-year-old has arrived at a massive decision on his future.

And that is that he’s STAYING at the club, despite the possibility of a move to Turkey which would give him a considerably bigger salary.

We told you how three of the biggest clubs in Turkey had failed to get a rule change brought in which would have relaxed regulations about the amount of foreign players at clubs.

Tavernier was believed to be subject of approaches from Istanbul Basaksehir, with the likes of Fenerbahce, Galatasaray and Giovanni van Bronckhorst‘s Besiktas monitoring developments.

But now HITC are reporting that Tavernier has made up his mind to stay in any case.

That’s despite the possibility of him pocketing what they call a ‘huge pay rise’ had he moved.

They say that he believes he has ‘unfinished business‘ at the club and has no desire to leave on the back of an Old Firm result which got him singled out for personal abuse by one disgruntled Gers fan.

For their part, the Ibrox side wouldn’t be happy to lose him at such a stage in the window in any case, with no possibility of bringing in any replacements outwith the free agent market.

They’ve been linked with former Derby County and Hull City star Cyrus Christie but SunSport believes there is nothing in that link.

They do have potential replacements in the squad already in the form of Dujon Sterling and Neraysho Kasanwirjo, but for now it seems like Tavernier is going nowhere.
