CYRIEL DESSERS once again proved to be Rangers’ main man of the moment at the weekend.
And one former Gers favourite couldn’t help but notice a striking similarity to one his own iconic Light Blues goals.
Dessers took his tally of goals for the season to seven in all competitions by firing a double to help Rangers down Dundee 3-0.
The No9 scored either side of a James Tavernier penalty to send the holders back to Hampden for the Premier Sports Cup semi-finals.
It was Rangers‘ first game back at Ibrox having been forced to start the campaign away from their home due to delays to renovation works in the Copland Stand.
Dessers’ first goal was an instinctive finish from close range.

His second was an impressive first time effort that had shades of a Rangers No9 from yesteryear.
New boy Nedim Bajrami sent a low, wicked delivery into the box, with the ball bouncing just before it got to Dessers who was charging into the box.
The Nigeria international showed great technique to stick out a leg and volley the ball beyond Trevor Carson.
And former Rangers star Michael Mols couldn’t help but notice a striking similarity to one of his most famous goals for the club!
Back in November 2000, Dick Advocaat’s Gers thumped Celtic 5-1 in a memorable Old Firm victory at Ibrox.
It was Mols, off the bench, who sealed the huge victory with the fifth and final goal.
And the goal was almost a carbon copy of Dessers’ strike against Dundee, a fact that hasn’t been lost on Mols who was watching on from afar!
That goal almost 24 years ago saw Ronald de Boer – who in another strange similarity was wearing the same number 14 shirt now worn by Bajrami – break the lines and fire a superb low ball across goal.
And there, wearing the number 9 shirt, was Mols who stretched out a leg to send a first time finish into the back of the net.
The two goals were clipped up side-by-side and shared on Instagram and the post caught Dutch former striker Mols’ attention.
Re-sharing the clips, Mols joked: “Everyone wants to be like Mike.”
He also spotted the bizarre coincidence that the goal saw the Rangers number 14 assisting the Rangers number 9 for the goal.
