Rangers fans divided on Ibrox return as ‘perfect’ new view praised while others fume at ‘ruined’ seats after renovations

RANGERS made their much anticipated return to Ibrox on Saturday after being forced to start the season away from home.

And fans were treated to a 3-0 victory over Dundee as the Gers secured a quickfire return to temporary home Hampden in the Premier Sports Cup.

A Cyriel Dessers double and a James Tavernier penalty eased the Light Blues into the semi-finals.

While it was a return to familiar territory, for some Rangers fans it was a new experience.

Ibrox had been out of action until the weekend due to renovation works in the Copland Stand.

Shipping delays meant materials didn’t arrive as initially planned, forcing the Gers to temporarily relocate to Hampden.

The works still aren’t fully completed with the top tier of the stand remaining closed for the time being.

The works revolved around creating a better experience for those sitting in accessible spaces.

A new cantilever has been constructed at the front of the Copland Rear containing hundreds of new seats.

Fans due to be sitting in those seats were moved elsewhere for the Dundee clash.

Those new seats in the newly constructed cantilever have replaced ones removed below – at the very back of the Copland Road – which have been turned into several new accessible viewing positions.

And it seems like fans attending the first game back had differing experiences of their new viewpoints.

Many fans took to social media, posting videos of their new views from their seats.

Punters sitting in the new accessible section seemed pleased.

One fan shared snaps saying: “The view from the new wheelchair accessible area in the Copland is great.”

Another fan sitting in the newly created section hailed their view as “perfect.”

But fans sitting just along from the accessible seating area weren’t quite as enthused.

While the bulk of seats at the very back of the Copland Stand have been transformed into the new accessible seating area, many still remain to either side of it.

And the renovations have brought around a change in view for those fans sitting at the very back of the Copland Front.

The newly constructed cantilever was built on the front of the Copland Rear, and as a result hangs down over the section below.

This means that what was previously a completely unobstructed view of the pitch in front now looks somewhat different.

Some fans posted pictures to social media appearing to show the cantilever obstructing their view of the pitch.

Some show the far opposite end of the pitch appearing to not be visible from the viewing position.

However, it appears to be the case that fans were experiencing these issues only when STANDING.

And when seated, the entire pitch could still be seen.

The new viewpoint from those seats appeared to divide Rangers fans on social media.

One fan, who posted from the section, said that “they have ruined our seats” and is expecting to be in contact with the club.

They added: “To see the full pitch, I need to slouch down over the seats in front.”

Another supporter labelled the view from the very back of the Copland Front as “atrocious.”

However, others felt like there was no issue.

Some pointed out similarities to the view from the Club Deck, where fans at the very back have the cantilever at the top of the stand hanging down over.

One fan replied: “You can still see the full pitch, nice and sheltered now don’t see the issue.”

Another said: “That’s still a cracking seat.”

A further Gers fan blasted: “No idea why we’ve got fans going out their way to try to make a good thing look bad. Plenty wrong at the moment this isn’t one of them.”

However, another said: “If I had my ticket there for years with an unrestricted view and then ended up stuck under that cantilever needing to sit down every game, I’d not be happy either.”
