RANGERS fans have been counting down the weeks, days and hours until 5.30pm this Saturday.
Not simply to continue their defence of the Premier Sports Cup. Although they will.
And not to meet last season’s washout opponents Dundee for the first time this term. Although again, they will.
Not even to stream through the turnstiles for their first tea-time kick-off of the season – and that they most definitely will. In their droves.
While the match is of great importance to Philippe Clement‘s side the big event would simply have been taken for granted just a few months ago.
What makes Saturday’s clash so special is Gers return to Ibrox after a whole summer of waiting.

The club’s botched building work which saw late delivery of steel from the Far East throw their early season fixtures into disarray is finally coming to an end.
So Gers can make the move back from their Hampden halfway house – and the fans are relishing the return.
So too the players. The likes of Robin Propper, Nedim Bajrami and Vaclav Cerny have yet to experience the Govan ground.
Now, they will.
It could be an emotive occasion and, after a summer of upheaval for the Gers, a little bit of normality will be restored on Edmiston Drive.

For the Dark Blues, Tony Docherty has some fresh injury news but Clark Robertson and Charlie Reilly are back in training.
He could also call upon cup competition specialist Antonio Portales the 28-year-old won FOUR at home in Mexico before heading to Tayside.
What the coaches said

Oh I’m looking so much forward to that. It’s like coming home. I have the feeling it’s been like 10 years or something.
So if you see the energy of the fans today it will be 10 times more, 10 times more people.
So yeah I cannot wait for that and the players also can’t wait.Philippe Clement
