Rare polar bear ends up in Iceland, is shot dead: “Not something we like to do”

Polar bears are rare in Iceland. Only very occasionally do they drift from Greenland on ice floes and end up in Iceland. This is the case with this polar bear, which suddenly found itself in a remote village in the northwestern tip of the country against its will. The national environmental agency refused to relocate the animal, after which the rare polar bear was shot dead by police. “This is not something we like to do,” says a police chief.
