Report: Pirates hire highly-touted pitching coach to staff

PITTSBURGH, Pa. (WKBN) – Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting that the Pittsburgh Pirates are hiring Brent Strom as an assistant pitching coach.

The 76-year-old spent the last three seasons as the pitching coach of the Arizona Diamondbacks but was fired following the 2024 season.

He previously served as pitching coach with the Houston Astros and Kansas City Royals. He also spent time working in the minor league systems of the Washington Nationals and St. Louis Cardinals.

As a player, he pitched five seasons in Major League Baseball spending time with the New York Mets, Cleveland Indians and San Diego Padres.
