Ronda Rousey Says She Was Already Concussed Before Her First UFC Loss Against Holly Holm

Anyone who has been a combat sports fan since the 2010s would know what an incredible run Ronda Rousey had. Yet in recent years, the actress and professional wrestler has kickstarted several controversies, with the recent being her tell-all memoir Our Fight. After making some crude allegations against Vince McMohan, Rousey in her latest interview reveals she was already concussed and injured before the first loss of her UFC career.

Ronda Rousey used to be at the top of the world when she entered the world of professional wrestling. Yet ever since her first UFC loss against Holly Holm while defending her Women’s Bantamweight Championship title in the fall of 2015, things seem to have only gone down for her.

Even though Rousey was more favored to win, she lost the fight. And in a recent interview with the Not Alone podcast, Rousey revealed the reason that it was her history of concussions and physical issues she had been suffering ever since she started fighting.

“‘Oh she was all hype and she was just lucky’ people making all these judgments about me in a fight where I was literally.. My first loss, my mouth guard was bad. I literally came into that fight concussed from slipping down some stairs already… And then I had absolutely terrible weight cut… and I was out of my feet for the entire time… I wasn’t there cognitively.”

While Rousey went on to reclaim her fame when she made her debut in WWE, she claims her concussions only turned worse. And she couldn’t let the organization know for fear of being pulled out.

Ever since her first maternity leave, Ronda Rousey seems to be critical of WWE. From calling out her coaches to making crude remarks against Vince McMahon, Rousey has made several other allegations against the organization.

In an interview with Cageside Seats, Rousey revealed how prejudiced WWE was about women wrestlers. Even the most famous women wrestlers were only given a fraction of the time and resources compared to men.

As for McMahon, in her new memoir, Our Fight not only did she compare him to an Emperor Palpatine-like figure in the world of WWE but also stated that she is not shocked by the several s*xual assault allegations against him (via News Nation Now).

While Rousey has no plans to return to WWE unless things change, the controversy around her comments and career continues. Yet one cannot deny that Ronda Rousey has been a pivotal figure and has made significant contributions to women’s wrestling throughout her career.
