The success of Deadpool & Wolverine is a glaring example of this effect, and he’s been grateful for the journey, sharing behind-the-scenes snippets on Instagram. Back when Deadpool 2 dropped in 2018, fans were then also treated to a treasure trove of BTS moments, including a hilarious clip featuring Josh Brolin that had everyone in stitches.

MCU fans know Josh Brolin as the cutthroat Thanos, but in the Deadpool saga, he served as Cable. A hilarious behind-the-scenes clip from Deadpool 2, shared by Ryan Reynolds in 2019 and resurfacing recently, has fans buzzing with laughter, especially in light of some new developments.

Interstingly, Brolin was in the running to play Hal Jordan, the cocky Green Lantern previously portrayed by Ryan Reynolds in the infamous 2011 flop. Rumor has it that Brolin got the offer at the end of August, and by the weekend, he had said no, The Hollywood Reporter reported.

The Instagram clip shows Brolin and Reynolds deep in conversation on the Deadpool set when, out of nowhere, a car crashes behind them, and they don’t even flinch. Reynolds captioned it, “In fairness, Waze always finds the shortest route to work. #Dopinder.” Here is what the fans are saying now,

The internet went wild at the thought of Brolin stepping into the role of Jordan, though it was never a done deal. Rumors swirled about several other A-list names, but their validity remains murky. For instance, Matthew McConaughey won’t be donning the Green Lantern ring any time soon, according to sources. As of now, nothing has been confirmed.

Can Green Lantern Ever Recover and Reclaim Its Reputation?

HBO has green-lit a live-action Green Lantern series, aptly named Lanterns. This fresh take on the DC Comics characters will be led by Chris Mundy of Ozark fame, who’s set to show run, write, and executive produce alongside Damon Lindelof and Tom King.

DC Studios and Warner Bros. Television are behind the show. Given the disastrous track record of the previous Green Lantern movie, this reboot is definitely a high-stakes gamble. But with eight episodes on deck, Lanterns aims to shine a new light on the DC Universe! The DCU bosses, Peter Safran and James Gunn have also spoken releasing a joint statement saying (via Entertainment Weekly),

John Stewart and Hal Jordan are two of DC’s most compelling characters, and Lanterns brings them to life in an original detective story that is a foundational part of the unified DCU we’re launching next summer with Superman.

Fans are eagerly hoping that the new Green Lantern project will redeem the franchise after the 2011 fiasco. The Gods and Monsters era kicks off this year with the animated Creature Commandos series in December. Before revisiting Hal Jordan with Laterns, audiences will get to know Guy Gardner, played by Nathan Fillion, in next year’s Superman.

Superman will hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
