Ryan Reynolds’ Gnarly Prediction About Hugh Jackman Playing Wolverine Might be Coming True With Latest X-Men Reboot Report

Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool & Wolverine made a silly joke about Disney making Hugh Jackman play the Wolverine character until he’s 90. Fans did not expect anything out of it and they were almost convinced that 55-year-old Jackman was done with the superhero role. However, an insider report about the X-Men reboot film at the MCU suggests that Reynolds’ prediction might just come true.

Jackman is not going to play the role until his 90s, but it is possible that he could remain in the role for the next decade or so. In this regard, the insider suggests that Marvel will not bother to look for a Wolverine replacement for the X-Men reboot.

Industry insider Daniel Richtman has made another crucial prediction regarding the MCU. Speaking about the X-Men reboot film to his Patreon followers, Richtman shared that Marvel’s current treatment of the film doesn’t include Wolverine. He went on to explain that the absence of Wolverine from the film is due to Hugh Jackman‘s continued appearance in the MCU (via @screentime | X).

Richtman further shared that the new X-Men team will be a much closer adaptation to MCU’s animated series X-Men ’97, except for no Wolverine. The insider added that Jackman might remain in the role even after Avengers: Secret Wars. It could mean that The Prestige actor could be playing the role well beyond 60.

Ryan Reynolds‘ sarcastic joke in Deadpool & Wolverine is the first thing that fans will think of after this new update. During a scene in the film, a kid recognizes Jackman’s character and exclaims, “That’s Wolverine!”. Deadpool responds to that with the cheeky line, “Damn straight it is! Disney brought him back and they’re going to make him do this until he’s 90!”

The Greatest Showman actor had a very long run with the character at Fox and eventually announced his retirement after Logan. When Reynolds announced his return to the role, it was said that his appearance was for one last time. Despite his age becoming more and more of a barrier, Jackman absolutely enjoyed his stint in the MCU.

Jackman could draw inspiration from Robert Downey Jr., who has agreed to return to the billion-dollars franchise at 59. Downey Jr. will be well over 60 when he appears as the villain Doom in Secret Wars. Fans really hope that Marvel has some great storyline in store for Jackman if they are keeping him for another decade.

One Potential Storyline Could Keep Hugh Jackman In The MCU Without Giving Him Physical Stress

One potential theory could avoid all the hassles of a recast and could bring back Hugh Jackman’s character in a mentor role, without putting him through the intense training. This theory could also explain why Wolverine doesn’t appear alongside the X-Men in the reboot film. According to the theory, fans want Jackman to stay on and train Dafne Keen’s X-23 to take over the mantle from him.

Logan’s biological daughter, Laura Kinney, is as ruthless as Wolverine and could potentially be fighting the battles for the both of them. Fans saw Dafne Keen return to her character in Deadpool & Wolverine and reunite with Jackman’s character in the end. She recently shared with Phase Zero that she “would love to come back” for more MCU films.

She could easily be the lone wolf who would later be introduced to the X-Men team, much like how Wolverine was brought into Xavier’s mutant school in the original X-Men film. Fans could potentially see more of their favorite father-daughter duo bonding in future films.

Deadpool & Wolverine and other Marvel films are currently streaming on Disney+.
