SALEM, Ohio (WKBN) — The Salem Police Department is warning citizens to be vigilant after multiple people have reported scam attempts.
The department warned that Salem residents have been the recent target of scammers impersonating the police department, claiming there is a warrant for their arrest.
If there was an active warrant for someone’s arrest, police visit their residence in person — they do not notify people of active warrants over the phone.
Police remind residents not to provide personal information — including social security numbers, bank details or any other sensitive data — over the phone.
If you receive a fraudulent call, Salem police advises you to hang up immediately.
