SCOTLAND’S busiest shopping street has been closed overnight for emergency works.
Scottish Water fenced off an area near Glasgow’s Buchanan Street subway station following reports of flooding.
The supplier says it is working with the city council and a clean-up will be organised.
A Scottish Water spokesperson said: “We are extremely conscious how busy Buchanan Street can be, particularly in the run-up to Christmas, and we are taking all necessary steps to ensure the health and safety of pedestrians and the wider public.
“We plan to carry out some initial site investigation work and a CCTV survey overnight tonight to understand the extent of what has happened and what remedial work will be required.
“We would like to thank all those affected for their patience and understanding.”
We told how Buchanan Galleries has been saved after plans to demolish it were scrapped.
Major re-development plans had been submitted to tear down the 25-year-old shopping hub as part of a housing and retail project costing £825million.
But those plans have been axed by the firm behind the project after they decided to rethink the redevelopment.
