Sun-loving Scots recently got to enjoy some rare good weather as the mercury hit 26C over the weekend.

The sunny weekend brought some welcome relief after Scotland suffered one of its most miserable summers in history.

But the weather joy is set to be short-lived as a chill moves in from Greenland.

The Arctic blast is set to move in on Wednesday and send temperatures plummeting.

A 700-mile polar air blast is set to get the country shivering right up until the weekend.

The mercury is predicted to drop to as low as 2C right through to Saturday, with daytime highs of 12C.

Weather experts reckon the frosty change will give Scots their first taste of this year’s winter, with frost and even SNOW predicted.

STV weather presenter Sean Batty said: “There will be a dramatic change, and believe it or not, snow is expected in the mountains of Scotland.”

The frigid plunge will be compounded with even more weather misery as the Greenland winds bring in more rain clouds.

More showers will drench the country today and tomorrow.

Downpours will get even more frequent as the week goes on with the north and western parts of Scotland to be drenched.

A Met Office forecaster said: “It is expected to turn very cool, with winds from a northwesterly direction.

“This will bring fairly frequent showers to the north, which could be of sleet or snow on the highest mountain tops.”

The Weather Outlook forecaster Brian Gaze said: “Even in the south, daytime temperatures will be dipping below the average and in the north it looks distinctly chilly for the first half of September.

“Cold nights are likely too, with a risk of ground frost and possibly even air frost in the north.”

The Met Office also warned off more rain bursts for many today Monday and tomorrow Tuesday.

“The North will continue to see showers through the week and the West seeing the most frequent rain into the weekend.”

This week is due two inches more rain in the west, with three inches in North Wales and an inch in the east.
