SEC top 10 for Week 5: Will the fourth be with Alabama versus Georgia?

The fifth week of the SEC’s 92nd season features a top-five conference matchup of Georgia and Alabama, plus Texas’ first league game in the SEC. The Saturday schedule includes five conference games and one non-conference contest. Five teams – Florida, Missouri, South Carolina, Tennessee and Vanderbilt – have open dates on Saturday. Here are 10 stats from SEC Football by the Numbers, along with the schedule, TV and betting lines, to get ready for Week 5:

1 Loss for Georgia in 17 games with Carson Beck as the starting quarterback – a 27-24 setback against Alabama in the 2023 SEC Championship Game. Beck completed 21-of-29 passes for 243 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions against the Crimson Tide in the December defeat. Beck has played in 29 games with the Bulldogs, and the one against Alabama is the only loss. Georgia plays the Crimson Tide again on Saturday.

1 Coach has guided both Mississippi State and Texas, who square off at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas, on Saturday. Darrell Royal had a 12-8 record as Mississippi State’s coach in 1954 and 1955. After a season at Washington, Royal started 19 seasons as Texas’ coach in 1957. He compiled a 167-47-5 record with the Longhorns and still holds the school record for coaching victories.

1 Loss in its past 67 non-conference home games for LSU, which hosts Sun Belt member South Alabama on Saturday. Since a season-opening setback against Virginia Tech in 2002, LSU’s only loss at Tiger Stadium to a non-conference foe came on Sept. 30, 2017, when Sun Belt member Troy scored a 24-21 upset. USA has one win in seven games against SEC opponents – a 21-20 victory over Mississippi State on Sept. 3, 2016 – and one win in eight games against ranked opponents – a 42-24 victory over No. 19 San Diego State on Oct. 1, 2016. LSU is ranked 14th in this week’s AP Poll.

4 Consecutive games with at least 600 yards of total offense for Ole Miss, which enters its game against Kentucky leading the nation in scoring, scoring margin, total offense, yards per play and first downs in the 2024 season. Kentucky has not allowed any of its four opponents to gain more than 300 yards this season.

12 Takeaways for Oklahoma this season, tied with San Jose State for the most in the nation. The Sooners have recovered all eight of their opponents’ fumbles (each recovered by a different Oklahoma player) and intercepted four passes. Billy Bowman Jr. and Robert Spears-Jennings, both safeties, have a fumble recovery and an interception apiece. The Sooners’ Saturday opponent, Auburn, has 14 turnovers this season, tied with East Carolina for the most in the nation. The Tigers have lost six of their 10 fumbles and thrown eight interceptions.

16 Consecutive victories in the fourth game of the season for Alabama. The Crimson Tide’s fourth-game streak started after a 26-23 overtime loss to Georgia in the fourth game of the 2007 season. Alabama plays Georgia on Saturday in the Crimson Tide’s fourth game of the 2024 campaign.

16 Consecutive victories on its opponent’s home field for Georgia, the longest road winning streak in the nation. The Bulldogs’ most recently lost in a true road game on Oct. 17, 2020, when Alabama defeated Georgia 41-24 at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The Bulldogs visit the Crimson Tide on Saturday.

18 Years since Arkansas had a 2-0 SEC record. The Razorbacks won their first seven conference games in 2006 on their way to the SEC Championship Game. The Hogs won their first league game of 2024 last week by beating Auburn 24-14 and play Texas A&M on Saturday. Arkansas has won its first SEC game in only four seasons since 2006 and lost to Alabama in 2010, Georgia in 2021 and Texas A&M in 2022 in its second league game in those seasons.

43 Consecutive losses for Kentucky when playing a top 10 SEC opponent on the road. The losing streak started after the Wildcats upended No. 1 Ole Miss 27-21 in Jackson, Mississippi, on Sept. 26, 1964. Kentucky visits No. 6 Ole Miss on Saturday. Kentucky has beaten top-10 opponents on the road since its 1964 victory over the Rebels, but the victories came in non-conference games. The Wildcats downed No. 4 Penn State 24-20 in State College on Oct. 1, 1977, and No. 9 Louisville 38-31 in Louisville on Nov. 25, 2023.

1,554 Passing yards for Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart this season, the most in the nation. Dart has completed 95-of-119 passes with 12 TDs and two interceptions to compile the most passing yards for an SEC quarterback in the first four games of a season since Kentucky’s Tim Couch had 1,577 in the first four games of the 1998 campaign. Ole Miss’ Saturday opponent, Kentucky, has not allowed an opponent to pass for more than 166 yards in any game this season.
