The Ottawa Senators are being careful with their new prized netminder.
Senators head coach Travis Green confirmed Tuesday that Linus Ullmark, who hasn’t practised since last week, tweaked something in camp.
However, Green insists he is not overly concerned about the goaltender’s status and said the team expects him to get back on the ice on Wednesday.
According to Green, Ullmark is “fine” and the team is just being “cautious” with the minor issue he is dealing with. Green also confirmed that Ullmark has been skating on his own.
Ullmark was acquired in June in a trade with the Boston Bruins in exchange for goalie Joonas Korpisalo, centre Mark Kastelic and a first-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft.
It was a gamble for Ottawa in trading for Ullmark, with the 30-year-old heading into the final year of his contract. However, the Senators have been looking for stability in net, which the team believes Ullmark can bring after posting a 22-10-7 record with a 2.55 goals-against average and .915 save percentage last season.
In early September, Senators GM Steve Staios told reporters that the team is not in a rush to begin contract talks as he wants Ullmark to get comfortable with the community first.
Last season, the Senators finished seventh in the Atlantic Division with a 37-41-4 record. They begin the 2024-25 regular season on Oct. 10 when they host the Florida Panthers, last season’s Stanley Cup champions.
