Senators’ Green optimistic Norris will be ready ‘sooner than later’

It’s been an eventful week for Ottawa Senators fans, with word that the club and the National Capital Commission agreed on a new arena deal.

However, more news came Saturday when head coach Travis Green shared details about Josh Norris‘ recovery.

“He’s doing well,” Green said. “We didn’t plan to scrimmage him from Day 1. We just want to make sure that we’re on top of it and that he’s fully ready. He’s gone through a lot with the surgeries.

“I don’t feel there’s any need to rush him. Especially when you’re tired and you’re grinding. He’s actually still on the ice doing some battle drills. I’m confident that he’ll be in a game sooner than later.”

Senators fans will hope management is being cautious with Norris’ return to play, as the centre will be important if Ottawa were to push for a playoff spot next spring.

The 25-year-old’s 2023-24 season was cut short after he crashed into the net on Feb. 27. The Michigan native had left shoulder surgery in March, the third total surgery on this area.

Norris appeared in 50 games, scoring 18 goals and recording 30 points before his injury.

He has six more years on a contract with an annual cap hit of $7.95 million.
