BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Shane Gillis, a standup comic whose profile has grown in recent years with hit comedy specials and a popular podcast, is coming to Birmingham this spring as part of his national tour.
Gillis, who co-hosts “Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast” and has his own show, “Tires,” on Netflix, will perform at the Legacy Arena at BJCC April 25.
Gillis first came to public attention in September 2019, when he was hired as a featured cast member of “Saturday Night Live.” However, clips from his podcast where he jokingly made derogatory comments about Asians caused a backlash, causing him to be removed from the show before the season premiere.
However, with appearances on “The Joe Rogan Experience,” as well as the release of his first standup special, “Shane Gillis: Live in Austin,” in 2021, Gillis’ popularity exploded, quickly selling tickets all over the country. His recent career trajectory has even included a stint hosting “Saturday Night Live” earlier this year, a full circle moment for the comedian.
In 2023, he released a new special, “Shane Gillis: Beautiful Dogs,” on Netflix.
Gillis has come to Alabama before, stopping in Tuscaloosa for the Alabama-Georgia game in September and another time in 2023.
Ticket pre-sale will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday with general sales beginning at 10 a.m. Friday.
