Shanks Beat Notorious Yonko Who Once Tried to Kill Gol D. Roger In Order to Earn His Yonko Status- One Piece Theory

In the world of Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece, becoming a Yonko of the Sea is one of the biggest achievable titles that any pirate can have for themselves. While the series features many faces, only 4 names are worthy enough to bear that title; they are none other than Luffy, Shanks, Blackbeard, and Buggy.

Fans have witnessed the growth of Monkey D. Luffy from being a rookie to becoming an Emperor of the Sea. However, fans are immensely curious about how the Captain of the Red-Hair Pirates achieved his title. While there have been several rumors, the hosts of That One Piece Talk podcast shared their theory of how the character would have made him a notorious name in the Grand Line.

The theory states that Red-Hair might have taken down a ghost from the past who once went against the King of the Pirates with his fleet but he ran away after he faced a harsh defeat!

Shanks Might Have Defeated Shiki To Earn His Yonko Title

In the world of Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece, Red-Hair Shanks is one of the most prestigious names and a prominent ally of Monkey D. Luffy and his Straw Hat Crew. While the character has been shrouded in mystery and much about him is not known, fans have tried to connect the dots and have come to a conclusion on how he might have become the Yonko.

As fans of the show would know, Shanks was a crew member of Gol D. Roger as a kid. In one of the episodes of the show, it was showcased how the Golden Lion offered him to become his right-hand man, but Roger declined and an epic sea battle took place between the two.

The battle shifted in favor of The King of Pirates, and it compelled Shiki to run away with his tail tucked between his legs. Following that idea, That One Piece Talk podcast talked about how Shanks became a Yonko “6 years ago.” Roger’s former crewmate defeated Shiki at Elbaf. The Flying Pirate had a 20-year plan that included the gigantification of animals and took over the Elbaf territory.

The idea of Red-Hair defeating Roger’s adversary sets the notion of how the giants love him so much at Elbaf and elevated him to the status of Yonko. The host gave several recent examples from the show, like the alliance of Luffy, Kid, and Law, and “if Shanks took out a former great pirate, it’d be huge and his name would be skyrocketed into emperor.”

Even though this theory is not proved it is a good enough explanation of how Shiki is not featured in the show, and assuming the unyielding loyalty to Gol D. Roger, Shanks might have taken out Shiki for good.

Even though nothing has been proven, the fan theory aligns so perfectly with the events showcased in the show that it compels the fans to believe that the Captain of the Red-Hair Pirates defeated the Golden Lion.

However, the community was quick to share their opinion of the theory, as they voiced their mind in the comment section of the reel. They commented,

@hadipesarmard commented, “I think shanks defeated Captain John and became a yonko”

@itxa.m1r commented, “(Theory)There was another pirate silhouette besides all of these mentioned in the rocks pirates I believe that’s the guy Shanks took down”

@stoneryan commented, “He just wanted the giant elbaf rats for his army”

@jesse.in.sid commented, “Wasn’t that movie considered not canon?”

@thatonebrownguy3709 commented, “Maaaan.. Seb trying so hard to make Shiki relevant”

Though the theory is intriguing, assuming that much is not known about the character, Eiichiro Oda should give a much more detailed backstory following Shanks, which would even include a chapter or two showcasing how he became Emperor of the Sea.
