A small ball python that was reportedly dumped at Nepaug Reservoir in Canton Friday afternoon has been placed in temporary foster care.
According to Burlington and Canton Animal Control Officer Katie Meskun, the snake could be put up for adoption after it finishes a period of quarantine.
“The ball python has been placed in a temporary foster home to complete its quarantine and stray hold,” Meskun said by email Monday. “At the end of the stray hold it will be placed with either a qualified adoptive home, or a rescue group.”
The large snake was found at the reservoir of Route 202 Friday when a local Metropolitan District officer reportedly saw it being dumped. The individuals who left the snake fled the scene, according to the Animal Control Facebook page.
Meskun asked that anyone with information about the incident call 860-960-6600.
Animal dumping has increased across the state and animal shelters are full or near capacity as people struggle with the cost of caring for their pets.
