Sony Can Give Us Andrew Garfield-Emma Stone’s Reunion While Breaking Box Office Records With This Storyline in TASM 3

Andrew Garfield’s portrayal of Peter Parker/Spider-Man in The Amazing Spider-Man swings on a pretty different web strand altogether. Sure, with three Spider-Men vying for the affection of Marvel enthusiasts—Tobey Maguire, Tom Holland, and Garfield—choosing a favorite is like picking your preferred flavor of ice cream topped with a scoop of personal charisma and quirks!

But in this Marvel melee, Garfield’s Spider-Man added his unique flare, skating around traits that neither Holland’s nor Maguire’s portrayals embodied.

However, The Amazing Spider-Man 3, which was intended to continue the story from The Amazing Spider-Man 2, was unfortunately shelved for various reasons. Many fans argue that canceling this sequel was a misstep, as it would have provided the closure Garfield’s Spider-Man saga needed, leaving audiences still craving more.

What Happened to Andrew Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man 3?

Fans have been spinning their wheels, trying to figure out what happened to The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and whether Andrew Garfield’s wall-crawler will ever make a comeback. After his debut in the role in 2012 and 2014, Garfield’s Spider-Man appeared to vanish into thin air, leading many to believe his Spider-Man journey had come to an end.

But the actor popped up in Spider-Man: No Way Home, alongside Tom Holland and Tobey Maguire. This surprise cameo had fans wondering if there might still be some silk left in Garfield’s Spidey suit.

Previously, discussions with Sony about integrating Garfield’s Spider-Man into the MCU’s The Avengers didn’t quite stick (via Screen Rant). However, the studio and Marvel eventually struck a deal, resulting in Tom Holland’s Spider-Man trilogy and leaving The Amazing Spider-Man 3 hanging like a loose thread.

Garfield has been a bit of a tease on this front. After Spider-Man: No Way Home hit theaters, he shared that the film “changed [the] life” of his Peter Parker and “re-inspired” him as a hero (via The Direct):

He’s going back in re-inspired to follow his destiny, his calling – the purpose of his life.

Even though Sony hasn’t officially greenlit The Amazing Spider-Man 3, Holland has swung in to show his support if the studio decides to give it the green light. He remarked:

So should Sony decide to do that, they would have my full support, and obviously, so would Andrew.

Even though the project was put on ice, that doesn’t mean Andrew Garfield’s stint as Peter Parker is hanging up its Spidey suit for good.

How Can Sony Bring Back Andrew Garfield & Emma Stone in TASM 3?

Fans have been busy spinning their own webs of speculation about what The Amazing Spider-Man 3 could have looked like. Some think the plotline might have involved Venom using the symbiote to resurrect Emma Stone’s Gwen Stacy.

Recently, Garfield has been caught in the crosshairs of rumors about potentially donning the Spidey suit again for Spider-Man 4. In an interview with IndieWire during the Toronto International Film Festival, the actor, with a wry smile, quipped:

I mean, like the internet is a big place. I think there’s a lot of people who will just say anything to get clicks. So you might have been duped, I’m afraid.

Despite Garfield playing the denial game, he’s not slamming the door shut on a comeback. When Screen Rant caught up with him at the TIFF premiere, Garfield seemed more open to the possibility.

The Hacksaw Ridge star, 41, mused:

I think it’s kind of endless, what can be done with that character. Not that we should; not that we will, but I think you can always find another story to tell.

It’s clear that Garfield isn’t opposed to suiting up as Spider-Man again, but he wants to make sure it’s for a story worth telling. He’s not interested in making a return just for the sake of it; he wants to swing back into action only if the story can deliver more than a mere gimmick.

The Amazing Spider-Man & The Amazing Spider-Man 2 are streaming on Disney+.
